Hyderabad police impose restrictions for New Year celebrations
December 23rd, 2011 - 10:13 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Dec 23 (IANS) To maintain public order, Hyderabad police have imposed several restrictions on revellers celebrating the New Year, an official said Friday.
All flyovers in the city would be closed for traffic on the night of Dec 31 while Tank Bund on Hussain Sagar lake would also be out of bounds for revellers, announced city Police Commissioner A.K. Khan.
In an attempt to prevent road accidents, police have also decided to deal firmly with drunken driving. The police chief Friday held a meeting with the managements of the bars, pubs, restaurants and star hotels and gave them directions to regulate New Year celebrations.
Khan also warned the hotels and bars that police would not tolerate any obscenity and nudity during the dance and other performances. They were asked to wind up the programmes by 1 a.m. and maintain sound levels at 45 decibels and less.
According to a release from the police commissioner’s office, the managements were also told that if anybody was found using drugs during the party, they would be culpable and action would be taken against them as per law.
The hotels and bars would also be responsible for dropping their customers home if they were drunk beyond the permissible level.
Police, already running a campaign against drunken driving, have asked the organisers of the New Year parties to display advisories, mentioning the punishment for those caught driving in an inebriated condition and also the concept of “designated driver for a day’.
