Husband of missing Rajasthan nurse arrested
December 8th, 2011 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANSJodhpur/New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) Amarchand, the husband of missing Rajasthan nurse Bhanwari Devi, was arrested by the CBI Thursday evening after he failed to give satisfactory answers to some persistent questioning by the agency, an officer said. Amarchand had accused then minister Mahipal Maderna of being involved in his wife’s disappearance.
“The husband of Bhanwari Devi, Amarchand, was arrested this (Thursday) evening. He was not cooperating with the agency and giving different versions during his interrogation,” a CBI officer said.
The nurse went missing Sep 1.
Amarchand had allegedly escaped from the Circuit House in Jodhpur during his interrogation by CBI officials Wednesday. The CBI officials, with the help of police, launched a massive hunt and traced him in two hours.
He was subjected to intense questioning.
According to sources, Amarchand had tried to flee as he was unable to reply to some tough questions.
Amarchand had claimed his wife had been kidnapped at the behest of sacked minister Maderna, who allegedly featured in a CD showing the two in a compromising position.
Amarchand’s arrest has come as a big surprise in the case as he was the first one to approach a court and register a complaint of his wife’s rape, murder and kidnap against Maderna, who has been arrested by the CBI.
It is suspected that Amarchand was aware of the conspiracy behind the murder of the nurse who is missing since Sep 1.
“Amarchand has been arrested and will be produced in a court Tuesday,” said a CBI spokesperson.
Maderna was arrested in Jodhpur in connection with the case Dec 3.
Along with him, the agency had also arrested Parasram Bishnoi, brother of Congress legislator from Luni constituency Malkhan Singh Bishnoi.
The agency also filed a charge sheet against three arrested accused persons in a court in Jodhpur.
In the charge sheet, Shahabuddin, Baliya and Sohanlal were charged with Sections 364 (abduction with an intent to kill) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
On Oct 16, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot sacked Maderna from the cabinet over allegations that he had a role in Bhanwari Devi’s disappearance as she was blackmailing him on the basis of a CD showing both of them in a compromising position.
Meanwhile, Maderna was Thursday brought to Jodhpur from New Delhi by the CBI. He will be presented in a court here Dec 9 after completion of his CBI remand period.
