Huge cache of pirated film, music CDs seized in Punjab
December 5th, 2008 - 9:17 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Dec 5 (IANS) The Punjab police Friday seized over 20,000 pirated film discs and arrested one man after a tip-off from the officials of the Indian Music Industry, a consortium of 142 firms.”The raids were conducted at the house of Kamaljit Singh, a resident of village Lambra in district Jalandhar, 135 km from Chandigarh. We seized a large number of pirated CDs, MP3s, DVDs, and VCDs of latest Bollywood movies, amounting to almost 22,621, as well as DVD writers”, a senior police official said.
The police have arrested Kamaljit Singh and filed a case against him.
Indian Music Industry’s general secretary Savio D’Souza said the entire music industry suffers losses worth Rs.six billion annually due to piracy.
“Such raids will prove beneficial for the industry and also boost the morale of the artistes,” he said.
