House collapse kills five in Delhi(Lead)
January 4th, 2012 - 6:05 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS) Five people, two of them children, were killed and five injured when a one-storey building in west Delhi collapsed following a gas cylinder blast Wednesday morning, an official said.
Police said the explosion took place around 7.30 a.m. in the Railway Colony at Mundka.
A fire brigade official told IANS: “The LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinder was possibly leaking and suddenly caught fire as some of the labourers were cooking.”
“Such was the impact that the one-storey structure, which was weak, collapsed soon after the explosion,” he added.
Fire brigade officials rushed to the spot immediately for rescue operations.
The wounded were rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where five were declared dead.
Those killed have been identified as Hema, 8, Avinash, 12, Santosh, 18, Mohan, 32, and Supal, 60.
The injured are said to be out of danger.
