Home ministry team visits Maoist attack site in West Bengal
February 17th, 2010 - 8:22 pm ICT by IANSShilda (West Bengal), Feb 17 (IANS) A two-member union home ministry team Wednesday visited the security force camp at Shilda in West Bengal, where an audacious attack by Maoist guerrillas Monday left 24 paramilitary troopers and a civilian dead.
“The union home ministry team has visited Shilda Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) camp this (Wednesday) evening,” an official source said.
State Inspector General of Police (Western range) Kuldip Singh said the home ministry team had left Kolkata.
“We don’t have any confirmed report where they are heading for. We have got instructions that if the central team needs any inputs, they themselves will get in touch with us,” Singh said.
Earlier, the union home ministry sought a detailed report from the state government on the Maoist attack at the Shilda EFR camp Monday evening.
Senior state police officials, led by chief secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty, convened a high-level meeting Wednesday to discuss the security infrastructure available at the joint forces camps in the Maoist region.
At the meeting, state Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh placed his report about his visit to the attack site Tuesday.
