Holi products with Dhoni photos in demand

Ranchi, March 20 (IANS) Brand Dhoni sells. Holi products with photographs of Indian cricket skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni are in demand here. Paper caps, masks, water guns and other products with photographs of Dhoni are proving most popular here, two days before the festival of colours.

Dhoni has not been in Ranchi for Holi for the last three years, but that has had no effect on the sale.

“I have already sold more than 10,000 masks, 2,000 water guns and 7,000 caps with pictures of Dhoni in the last one week,” said Ramesh Joshi, owner of Bhagwati Stores, a shop that has been stocking Holi products.

Another shopkeeper, Praveen Mangal of Mangal store, said: “We have caps, mask and water guns with photographs of cricketers, film stars and other personalities. But the demand for Dhoni cap, water gun and mask is highest.”

The paper mask sells for Rs.2 and the cap for Rs.3. Water gun prices vary widely, between Rs.15 and Rs.90.

“People were not as enthusiastic about Dhoni brand Holi products last year as they are this year. Last year people did not buy products having picture of Dhoni as India was ousted from world cup,” said Kishori Lal, another shop owner.

He said: “The victory of India in Twenty20 and triangular series in Australia has made people, particularly the young generation, crazy about Dhoni.”

“Jharkhand is famous for black diamond and Dhoni is a real diamond of the state. We will feel great while wearing Dhoni brand cap and mask on Holi. I have purchased 10 caps and 12 masks and distributed it among my friends,” said Rajesh Sen, a Dhoni fan.
