Taliban Islamabad, May 26 (IANS) The government should hold an “open joint session” of parliament to discuss the terror attack at a key naval base in Karachi, the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has demanded.

Heavily-armed terrorists had sneaked into PNS Mehran Sunday night and targetted two surveillance aircraft. The 16-hour long siege ended Monday afternoon.

“We demand of the government to convene joint sitting of the two houses of parliament. It should be an open session,” Dawn quoted Nisar Ali Khan, opposition leader in the National Assembly, as saying.

Describing the Karachi strike as a “complete security and intelligence failure”, he said earlier attacks on the army GHQ in Rawalpindi, offices of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) across the country and training centres of the security forces had created a “sense of insecurity” among the people.

He also criticised the government for the delay in setting up an independent commission to probe the May 2 US commando raid in Abbottabad in which Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was gunned down.

There have been a string of attacks across Pakistan after Osama’s killing.

Pakistan Taliban and Al Qaeda have vowed to avenge the death of Osama bin Laden by threatening to launch attacks on the US and Pakistan.

On May 13, the Taliban viciously struck back with two suicide bombers blowing themselves up at a training centre in Charsadda for Pakistani security personnel, killing at least 80 people and injuring over 100.
