Shimla, Jan 16 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh will market organic manure produced from apple solid waste, a senior official said Friday.”We will market organic manure produced from apple pomace (solid waste left after extraction of juice from fruit),” said Bharat Khera, managing director of Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Processing and Marketing Corp (HPMC).

“The first lot of 10 tonnes of manure is ready to hit the market. It will be marketed in 50-kg packs at Rs.300,” Khera told IANS.

HPMC’s biggest fruit processing plant produces around 2,000 tonnes of apple solid waste.

“We have plans to produce 1,500 tonnes of organic manure annually,” he added. The company mainly focuses on supplying apple juice concentrate to multinationals.

HPMC will source the technology to produce the apple waste manure from a Ludhiana-based firm. The initiative will also help disposal of solid waste scientifically, Khera said.
