Himachal school gets clean chit on students’ assault
July 3rd, 2010 - 9:45 pm ICT by IANSShimla, July 3 (IANS) The prestigious Dagshai Public School in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district was given a clean chit by police Saturday over a complaint by five students alleging manhandling and assault .
The residential school’s students had alleged in a police complaint Friday that they were regularly assaulted and manhandled by the principal and teachers.
“We have investigated the matter thoroughly and found that no cognizable offence has been made out against the school authorities. We have sent a report in this regard to the state education department,” Solan Superintendent of Police V.K. Dhawan told IANS.
He said the students were medically examined Saturday and it was found that the bruises on their body were not due to any assault.
“Even the boys (who lodged the complaint) Saturday gave in writing that some teachers instigated them to go to police. Now, they are ready to follow the school instructions,” he said, adding that “the students were having some adjustment problems in the school”.
He said police had received no complaint on the incident from the parents of the students. He, however, admitted that more than 30 students of the school took out a rally in the town against school authorities Friday.
A senior teacher of the school said: “Indiscipline would not be tolerated on the school campus. The students have admitted their mistake and they promised to follow the school instructions properly. Their parents have been informed and have asked to meet the principal by next week.”
Most of the students who lodged the complaint belong to Punjab and Haryana.
The school that caters to Indian and foreign students was set up in 1957 as a co-educational institution.
