Shimla, April 4 (IANS) The Himachal Pradesh government has identified land in Mandi district for setting up a processing plant of the state-run Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), a minister said here Monday.
“We have identified land at two places in Mandi district and informed SAIL April 1 in this regard,” Industries Minister Kishan Kapoor said in the assembly.
He said earlier SAIL had rejected the land identified by the government in some other places in Mandi district.
“We are awaiting the arrival of SAIL team for the site inspection. We have also provided information to SAIL authorities regarding road and rail connectivity and electricity and water availability at the proposed sites,” he added.
SAIL has already started commissioning of a secondary manufacturing unit of TMT bars at Kandrori in Kangra district in the state.
In February 2009, then steel minister Ram Vilas Paswan had laid the foundation stone of the processing plant.
