Shimla, Sep 16 (IANS) The southwest monsoon is aggressive again in Himachal Pradesh, but overall rainfall in the state this year has so far been six percent deficit against the normal, the weather bureau said here Friday.
It, however, said there is almost a fortnight for monsoon to remain active before it starts receding from the region.
The state received 700.3 mm of rainfall against the normal of 746.7 mm till Thursday, a deficit of six percent, Meteorological Office director Manmohan Singh told IANS.
According to him, the western disturbance would remain active in the region along with the southwest monsoon till Saturday morning, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state.
Singh said this year though monsoon has brought less rains so far, the spells were regular. “There is practically no big gap between one spell and another,” he added.
Kinnaur district received 49 percent more rainfall than normal this time, followed by Kullu 29 percent and Una with 26 percent excess rainfall.
Lahaul and Spiti district received 63 percent less rainfall than normal, followed by Solan 23 per cent, Chamba 20 percent and Shimla four percent deficit.
Last year, the monsoon in the state was bountiful. It brought 16 percent more rains than the normal. Good monsoon brings good cheer to the millions of farmers as over 80 percent of the farm area in the state is rain-fed.
