Himachal gives Rs.2 crore for Sikkim quake victims
September 23rd, 2011 - 7:58 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Sep 23 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Friday contributed Rs.2 crore towards relief for the victims of the earthquake that rocked Sikkim on Sunday evening.
An official spokesperson said here Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has sent a draft to Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling from the chief minister’s relief fund for rehabilitation and restoration works.
In a letter written to Chamling, Dhumal said: “The people of Himachal are with the people of Sikkim in this tragic hour”.
He appealed to the people to contribute liberally for the relief fund for this humanitarian cause.
Sunday’s 6.8-magnitude temblor, which hit large parts of eastern and northern India, Nepal and Tibet, killed 79 people in Sikkim alone and left more than 300 injured.
