Himachal cloudburst leaves two dead
August 7th, 2009 - 11:50 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Shimla, Aug 7 (IANS) Two people including a child were killed in a cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh, an official said Friday.
“Two members of a family were killed in a cloudburst near Dharmpur town last (Thursday) night,” Mandi Deputy Commissioner Onkar Sharma told IANS on phone.
“There are reports of massive damage to property and livestock in a cluster of villages. A team was sent soon after the news came about the cloudburst. Since the communication link is poor, it is difficult to know the exact damage,” said Sharma, who was also rushing to the spot Friday morning.
He said a cloudburst had occurred at the same spot Wednesday night but there was no loss of life.
Transport Minister and local legislator Mohinder Singh said since most of the roads leading to the affected villages are blocked due to landslides, a rescue team was sent there on foot.
Flash floods triggered by cloudbursts are common during the monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh.
