Himachal bureaucrat gets time to respond to narco test plea
November 22nd, 2008 - 10:44 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Nov 22 (IANS) A Himachal Pradesh court Saturday gave time till Dec 20 to senior bureaucrat Subhash Ahluwalia, who was booked by the vigilance bureau last month on corruption charges, for filing a reply to the bureau’s application seeking to conduct a narco test on him.”Special Judge S.L. Gupta gave time till Dec 20 for filing a reply to the application moved in a special court by the bureau seeking to conduct a narco test on Ahluwalia,” said a bureau official.
“The judge adjourned the case as the defendant sought more time to file his reply,” the official added.
Ahluwalia and his wife, Meera have been booked in a disproportionate assets case. A 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Ahluwalia was arrested by the vigilance bureau from his residence in Haryana’s Panchkula town Oct 8. The Himachal Pradesh High Court later granted him bail.
During the raids at Ahluwalia’s residence, the vigilance sleuths seized documents, including several fixed deposit receipts, bank papers and share certificiates. A laptop and desktop computer were also seized.
The bureau also unearthed 16 bank accounts with more than Rs.13.4 million in the name of the Ahluwalias.
It has also made assessment of properties owned by the Ahluwalias in Shimla, Panchkula, Kansal near Chandigarh and Gurgaon.
During the previous government, Ahluwalia was private secretary to the chief minister for over four years.
