Perth, Dec 19 (IANS) Tasmanian fast bowler Ben Hilfenhaus revived his hopes of a Test comeback with a Man of the Match performance in Hobart Hurricanes’ 31-run triumph over the Perth Scorchers at the WACA Ground in front of Australia coach Mickey Aurthur.

The 28-year-old paceman, who picked 2-10 from his four overs Sunday night, was a surprise omission from the recent Test series against New Zealand despite injuries to senior Australian fast bowlers.

Arthur would almost certainly have been impressed by the efforts of Hilfenhaus, who has not featured on the international scene since last summer’s Ashes series.

But Hilfenhaus, whose career has been troubled by knee tendonitis, is unsure about his international future.

“Last year I had a problem with the tendonitis in my leg and it sort of changed my action a bit. It made me bowl around myself so the ball was swinging early. Batters find it a lot easier to play if the ball swings out of the hand rather than swinging late, so we identified that and worked on those things,” Hilfenhaus was quoted as saying by the Courier Mail.

“I’ve just got to do the best I can and hopefully that’s enough at some stage to get recognised at the higher level again,” he said.

Hilfenhaus admitted that with several young fast bowlers coming up he was not sure where he stands.

“There’s some pretty good stock going around the country now, which is a very good thing, and it’s probably to do with the level of cricket at the moment. There’s probably a few too with many injuries going around, but there is some good depth there now.”

“I’m not sure (where I stand). I’ve just got to get back playing cricket and do the best I can and hopefully that’s enough at some stage to get recognised at the higher level again,” he said.

Hilfenhaus will have one more chance to push for an international recall before the Boxing Day Test against India when the Hurricanes host the Sydney Sixers in Hobart Wednesday.
