High court disposes of two petitions on CWG graft (Lead)
October 20th, 2010 - 3:00 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Delhi High Court Wednesday disposed of two petitions seeking separate inquiries into alleged corruption in the funding of the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG).
The second petition, filed by lawyer Ajay Aggarwal Sep 29, sought an independent audit of the works and sealing of records pertaining to tenders, work measurement and expenses above Rs.1 lakh related to the Games.
Aggarwal had also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged irregularities in the multi-million-rupee deals for the Games preparations.
Besides Games organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, Aggarwal had made the cabinet secretary, the youth affairs and the sports secretary, and the CBI as respondents.
But the bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan said the petitioner could file documents related to any evidence in the matter before a committee appointed by the government to look into the graft allegations.
However, the bench allowed the petitioner to approach the court after the enquiry.
The bench earlier Wednesday morning similarly disposed of a petition filed by former Indian Administration Service (IAS) officer Arun Bhatia on the same grounds. Bhatia had sought an inquiry into alleged misappropriation of funds in the CWG.
The court advised him that he could file related documents before the committee looking into the graft allegations, and said he could approach the court after the probe.
