New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday dismissed a plea of Rajya Sabha member and former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh seeking modification in the bail amount in the cash-for-vote case.
Amar Singh approached the court saying that the high court’s order asking him to furnish a personal bond and two sureties of Rs.50 lakh each as bail condition be modified as other four accused in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam were asked to furnish a bond of Rs.2 lakh each only.
Justice Suresh Kait declining to give him relief said: “I am not inclined to modify the earlier order. The application is dismissed.”
On Oct 24 last year, the High Court had granted bail to Amar Singh and directed him to furnish personal bond and two sureties of Rs.50 lakh each.
He was chargesheeted in the cash for vote scam under section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and section 120 B (Conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
On July 22, 2008, Bharatiya Janata Party MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahavir Bhagora and Ashok Argal waved wads of currency notes in the Lok Sabha ahead of a trust vote, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.
