High alert in Uttar Pradesh, leave of cops cancelled (Lead)November 27th, 2008 - 5:28 pm ICT by IANS
Lucknow, Nov 27 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh government cancelled leave of all police officials in the state as it sounded a high alert in the wake of terrorist strikes on the country’s commercial capital Mumbai through Wednesday night and Thursday. Officials informed that leave of all policemen in the state have been cancelled till Dec 10.
Security all over the state, especially in Agra, Varanasi, Faizabad, Mathura and other places of pilgrimage has been strengthened, they added.
Additional police force and para-military personnel have been deployed at all the landmark buildings of the important districts, including Lucknow.
“We have deployed security forces near malls, hotels and other public places and rigorous vehicle checking is also being carried out in the entire state,” additional director general of police (crime, law and order) Brijlal told IANS on the phone.
