Beijing, Sep 9 (IANS) A taxi driver in China, who jumped red lights so that an injured woman could reach hospital, faces the prospect of paying a traffic fine as the woman simply disappeared without corroborating his story.

Police said the woman has to verify his story so they can cancel fines and other penalties.

“…I know it has been more than 10 days since that journey and the woman has not reappeared,” Shanghai Daily quoted taxi driver Song Jixing as saying.

The taxi driver’s plight has led to an online discussion.

Song said the woman was about 50-years old and she had seriously injured a finger.

“I figured it was an urgent situation. So I did not stop where I should have all along the ride to the hospital. The passenger was sweating heavily and kept pressing me to speed up.

“I cannot remember how many red lights I ran,” the taxi driver said.

He didn’t even ask her to pay for the ride so that she could save time.

They exchanged telephone numbers, but when he called her up she said she was too busy.

He subsequently lost his mobile phone and her number.
