Heath Ledger suffered mental misery: BookOctober 26th, 2008 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANS
London, Oct 26 (IANS) Late Australian actor Heath Ledger may have suffered from bipolar disorder, a new book about his life has claimed. There is a history of the illness with wild mood swings in the Ledger family, the book, “Heath: A Family’s Tale”, revealing that one of his uncles, Haydn Ledger, has been diagnosed as bipolar, reports mirror.co.uk.
The book by English journalist Janet Fife-Yeomans, reveals that friends believe Ledger’s wildly fluctuating emotions may have been linked to bipolar disorder.
Ledger’s mental condition was said to have deteriorated after he split up with partner Michelle Williams, the mother of their daughter Matilda.
Haydn Ledger, 53, said he had only recently been told he was bipolar and had been having psychiatric treatment.
“I don’t mind people knowing that I have it and it is a shame that it took this long to be diagnosed,” he said.
Ledger died, aged 28, from an accidental overdose of prescription medication in New York in January this year.
