HCL employee commits suicide in Noida

Noida (Uttar Pradesh), April 2 (IANS) A twenty-eight-year old woman, an employee of the tech major HCL, committed suicide here allegedly due to torture and dowry demands by her husband, the police said Wednesday. According to Superintendent of Police (City) R.K. Gautam, the woman, Rubika, was married to Pradeep Kumar Sharma, also employed in the same company, in March 2006 and was constantly being harassed for dowry.

Fed up by constant torture over dowry, Rubika left her husband’s home and was living with her parent’s home, where she hanged herself Tuesday evening. She was six months pregnant at the time of her death.

The police recovered a suicide note from her bedroom, in which Rubika alleged that her husband was torturing her for dowry. On the basis of the note, the police have arrested Sharma and his brother Akash Sharma, the official said.
