Have teachers for disabled students before next session: Court
December 17th, 2009 - 8:18 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Thursday pulled up the Delhi government for its failure to appoint special teachers for disabled children in state-run schools and said they should be hired before the next academic session begins.
A division bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar said: “You (government) will keep on stretching the matter by saying that committee will look into the appointment of teachers but will not take any concrete steps for the same. We want that special teachers should be appointed before the next academic session begins.”
The court also pulled up Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) after they filed an affidavit stating that a total of 1,561 students are studying in their schools having special needs but have no special teacher to look after them.
“This attitude will not follow. You (KV) must create posts for special teachers in your schools across the country,” the bench said while asking the KV administration to submit their line of action by Friday.
The court had earlier asked the government to appoint special teachers in each of the 3,000 schools in the capital, run by the Delhi government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
