Haryana proposes teacher evaluation
July 18th, 2011 - 5:34 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, July 18 (IANS) Haryana has proposed a teacher evaluation system to improve their skills and provide quality education to students in government institutions, a spokesman of the education department said here Monday.
Under the proposed strategy, teachers would be evaluated on three counts — self-appraisal, management’s evaluation and grading, and management’s suggestions.
“The total marks for evaluation would be 100. Of these, 50 would be for students’ results, 20 for assessment of principal and 10 each for assessment of school management and development committee (SMDC), additional professional qualifications acquired during the year and minimum training attended during the year,” the spokesman said.
“Evaluation would be placed within a growth oriented and fair framework and the evaluation experience would be non-threatening and beneficial for all parties, especially the students,” he added.
The proposed teachers’ evaluation strategy has been uploaded on the department website and all stakeholders have been invited to send their comments through post or e-mail to identify areas for improvement, he said.
Third-party evaluation of performance of students has also been proposed under the scheme.
The SMDC would comprise members from parents, local bodies, panchayats, teachers and even students community.
“The committee would oversee the overall development of the school and also frame a school development plan. SMDC would keep an eye on each aspect of schooling - enrolment, retention, teacher attendance, discipline in the school, school infrastructure, school maintenance and cleanliness,” he said.
The committee would also be asked to rate each teacher on punctuality, participation in school management and upkeep, teaching quality and student development.
