Haryana police official arrested for rape

Karnal (Haryana), June 26 (IANS) Haryana’s beleaguered police force was in for further embarrassment Thursday when a police official was arrested in this district for allegedly raping a newly-wed woman at a police station complex near here. Police officials confirmed that Jai Singh, the station house officer of Nissing town near here, was arrested and suspended after a newly-wed woman alleged that he called her to the police station and raped her.

She was raped by the police official in his house adjoining the police station.

District police officials said the medical report of the woman was awaited and investigations were in progress.

In recent days, criminal incidents involving Haryana police officials have suddenly gone up.

A young woman from Rohtak, Sarita, who alleged raped by two policemen inside a police station in Hooda’s hometown Rohtak April this year, committed suicide earlier June inside the police headquarters in Panchkula.

She blamed the state police officials for not registering a rape case on her complaint for nearly two months. The state government has forwarded her case for investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A youth from a village near Karnal committed suicide last week after being tortured by the police in a case pertaining to the disappearance of a girl of his village. He wrote a suicide note against a Haryana police official implicating him in the case.

A youth, Mahender Kumar, was shot dead by a police team in a case of mistaken identity last Thursday after he failed to stop his vehicle at a barricade near Tosham town, 300 km from Chandigarh. Villagers blocked the Bhiwani highway to protest the killing.
