Chandigarh, March 3 (IANS) The Punjab and Haryana High Court Thursday issued notice to the Haryana government over the alleged massacre of Sikhs
in a village in Rewari district 26 years ago.

The court has directed the state government to submit its reply April 8.

Sikh organisations have said that 32 Sikhs were targeted and killed by mobs in Hondh-Chillar village Nov 2, 1984 after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh bodyguards.

Sikhs for Justice, a US-based NGO, and the All India Sikh Students Federation had filed a petition in the court last month seeking a probe by a retired high court judge into the incident.

The petition was filed against the Haryana government and the Rewari superintendent of police. They wanted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to assist the judge.

“It was all well-planned. The attackers had come in a Haryana Roadways bus and they had the full support of the government. Justice has not been done in this case,” Navkiran Singh, a lawyer who has the petition on behalf of the NGOs, told IANS Thursday.
