Chandigarh, June 29 (IANS) The Haryana government has initiated a move to give financial incentives to young couples going in for inter-caste marriage, an official said Sunday. Under the scheme, a couple opting for inter-caste marriage will be given Rs.50,000 by the state government, an official said here.
In a recent case, a couple, Veer Singh of village Bachod in Haryana’s Mahendergarh district and Renu of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district, who belonged to different castes but got married, were given the incentive by the district authorities in Narnaul.
The Narnaul district administration accepted their application under the inter-caste marriage scheme and decided to give them Rs.50,000 within a month.
“The beneficiary of the inter-caste marriage scheme should be residents of Haryana and either girl or boy should be belonging to Scheduled Caste. They have to fill the application form within a year of their marriage to get benefit of the scheme,” said Amneet P. Kumar, Narnaul deputy commissioner.
She said that the scheme would help in eliminating the feeling of high and low caste and it would help reduce the caste gap in the society.
