Haryana forms security panel for religious sites
July 19th, 2011 - 5:21 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, July 19 (IANS) The Haryana government Tuesday announced a committee to oversee the security of places of religious importance in the state.
The committee, set up Tuesday, will be headed by director general of police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Its members will include director of urban local bodies, inspector general of police (law and order), deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of districts, administrators of places of pilgrimages, and chief executive officers of shrines and others.
“The committee will review possible threats to religious places and lay down guidelines which would govern the security set-up that should be in position at various religious places… It would periodically review the overall security status of religious places and make recommendations,” a state government spokesman said here.
Haryana is home to many prominent religious places, including Kurukshetra - the land of the Hindu epic Mahabharata - Pehowa town in Kurukshetra district, and Mansa Devi temple at Panchkula, near Chandigarh.
