Harpreet Singh wins Elite Race at Hero Delhi Cyclothon

New Delhi, Oct 9 (IANS) Harpreet Singh from the SAI’s Center of Excellence, Patiala, won the 64 km Elite Race at the Hero Delhi Cylothon here Sunday.

The eight lap race saw a close finish with Rajasthan’s Rajesh Bishnoi crossing the line right behind Harpreet, who took home Rs. 125,000 in prize money. Delhi rider Arvind Panwar was third.

The race started from Parliament Street with the 120 cyclists passing through Raisina Road, Connaught Place, Janpath, Rajpath and Vijay Chowk before returning to the spot of origin.

The National Dope Control Agency (NADA) took samples of the top three riders and three random samples of riders participating in the Elite Race.

The other categories of the Cyclothon comprised a 10 km Green Ride, a 20 km FICCI Corporate Ride, a 20 km GMR Amateur Ride and a 5 km Parle-G Junior Ride.

The Rs. five lakh prize money event was organised by Cycling Federation of India (CFI) in partnership with Hero Cycles and Sport 18.

Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan, acting IOA president Vijay Kumar Malhotra, CFI president Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Hero Motors managing director Pankaj Munjal were present at the second edition of Cyclothon.
