New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS) Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who negotiated with Team Anna to resolve the Lokpal logjam, said Saturday he was happy with the resolution of the issue.
“I am happy that the debate has resolved the impasse which was created by fasting of Anna Hazare,” Mukhrejee told reporters.
He said both the houses of parliament debated and discussed the issue of Lokpal “in all aspects and in both the houses, there was consensus”.
Law Minister Salman Khurshid, who also participated in the negotiations with Team Anna, said the adoption of the “sense of parliament” on the Lokpal Bill was “a victory of the people”.
“It is a good development and a victory of the people. All their suggestions have been accepted in principle. This is a historic day,” Khurshid told reporters.
“With full honesty and sincerity, we continued trying to find a solution and did not lose hope. All the young Ministers in the cabinet also helped us a lot,” he said.
Asked about the decision to send the entire records of the debate on the Lokpal Bill in the two Houses to the standing committee considering the Lokpal bill, he said: “We think it is very important and the standing committee will understand its importance”.
