Hand grenades found in Kolkata

Kolkata, Sep 4 (IANS) Two live hand grenades were found by a street child in north Kolkata, the police said Thursday. The grenades were removed from the spot by the bomb disposal squad. “We got a call at the police control room Thursday that two 1993-made live hand grenades were found in a jute bag at Manik Bose Ghat area in north Kolkata. Officers from the bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and took away the grenades to the nearby Police Training School (PTS),” city police deputy commissioner (detective department) Javed Shamim told IANS.

“Till now we don’t know where the grenades came from,” Shamim added.

Police sources at Lalbazar - the city police headquarter, said a 12-year-old street child found the jute bag by the road and called the locals for help.
