March 4th, 2010 - 10:18 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Gurgaon, March 4 (IANS) A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday for plotting his own kidnapping in order to collect ransom to pay off his debts, police said here.
Amit Garg was working as a sales manager with a share trading company in Gurgaon and his friends were pressurising him to repay the debt of Rs.5 lakh he owed them. He, therefore, planned his own kidnapping and demanded ransom from his father, police added.
Garg, a resident of posh Palam Vihar area, went missing last Sunday. According to a complaint filed by his brother at Palam Vihar police station, Garg left his DLF office but did not return home.
The family also received a ransom call of Rs.5 lakh.
“He bought a different SIM card and used to make ransom calls from that number. We traced this number to Haridwar and arrested him Thursday evening,” said a senior police officer.
