Gunfire kills child in Ghaziabad marriage function

Ghaziabad, March 9 (IANS) A five-year-old child was killed when one of the guests at a wedding ceremony opened fire from his gun to celebrate the occasion in Noorpur locality, Ghaziabad, the police said. According to police, the incident occurred while the groom was mounting the horse in a pre-marriage custom. The accused, in a mood of celebration, fired in the air from his .315 gun. In his continuous firing, a bullet hit Anushka, who was watching the procession from the rooftop of her house.

Though she was rushed to a local hospital, doctors said she was brought dead.

Rural Superintendent of Police Jagdish Sharma said the man who opened the fire was identified as Sunder, son of Atar Singh, a resident of the same locality.

The police are verifying whether Sunder has a licence to carry weapon. The offender is still at large, said Sharma.
