Gujarat to kick off forestry campaign

Narendra Modi Gandhinagar, July 27 (IANS) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will launch the annual forestry campaign, christened ‘Vave Gujarat’ (Gujarat sows), Sunday with an aim of planting over nine crore saplings across the state this monsoon, officials said.

Giving details of the campaign, spokespersons-ministers Jaynarayan Vyas and Saurabh Patel said that Modi will launch the project from the foothills of the Pavagadh-Champaner world heritage site near Vadodara.

The plan is to sow 9.80 crore saplings on 13,200 hectares of land during the monsoon across the state.

The event assumes significance as the United Nations is celebarting 2011 as the International Year of Forestry.

‘Vave Gujarat’ also marks the commencement of the 62nd Van Mahotsav in the state.
