Gandhinagar, July 6 (IANS) The Gujarat state information commission has ruled that all details pertaining to mining leases should be proactively publcised by the public authority.

The commission in an order made available Wednesday said details about the lease holder like name, address and tenure of the lease should be shared.

Pankti Jog, executive secretary of the Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel, filed an application under the right to information (RTI) in 2007 seeking details about mining leases in Porbandar district.

She was provided information during the hearing on her complaint at the commission.

The commission said that as per the law, the public authority giving authorisation, permits or licenses should disclose such details on the website.

Welcoming this order, Pankti said that illegal mining or deep mining without permission of the concerned authority continued to be a matter of great concern, especially along Coastal Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
