Guidelines revised on phone tapping

New Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS) The government has revised and streamlined guidelines on telephone interception, Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh said Tuesday.

The minister told the Lok Sabha that this followed the constitution of an inter-ministerial group to consider issues related to interception of messages and tapping of telephone and email messages.

He said in a written statement that there had been no changes in the number of security agencies authorized to tape phones in national interest.

There were also no remarks and suggestions from courts in this regard, he added.
