New , Sep 3 (IANS) The government Wednesday finalised guidelines for approving proposals for building greenfield airports.A government statement said that the guidelines include procedures for submission, appraisal and approval of proposals.

All proposals will be routed through a steering committee, with the civil aviation ministry serving as its secretariat.

The ministry will be responsible for processing proposals received by the steering committee, convening the meetings of the committee and coordinating with various stakeholders.

These guidelines will apply to the setting up of all new airports, heliports and upgrading of airfields. However, airports set up for private use, that is use of the aerodrome for non-commercial purposes will not be subject to these guidelines.
