Groom demands dowry, bride’s brother throws acid on him
June 1st, 2009 - 5:20 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, June 1 (IANS) A youth in an Uttar Pradesh village threw acid on his sister’s groom for demanding Rs.10,000 in dowry just before the marriage ceremony was to start, police said Monday
According to the police, Sanjay Yadav threw acid on Ramesh Yadav after the latter said that he will get married only after getting the money.
The incident occurred at Badkhari village in Jaunpur, 200 km from here, Sunday night.
“Ramesh suffered severe burn injuries on his face and upper part of the body and is undergoing treatment in the district hospital. His condition is said to be critical,” Inspector Dharacharya Pandey told IANS by phone.
The police are on the look out for Sanjay, who escaped from the spot.
