Green rating assessment scheme for Goa demanded
October 1st, 2011 - 1:05 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Oct 1 (IANS) Green architects in Goa are lobbying with the state government to come up with a green rating assessment scheme for infrastructure projects in the state to give a fillip to environment-friendly architecture.
The green rating assessment would spur builders and real estate developers to move to green building concepts with gusto, Amar Britto, chairman of the Goa chapter of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), said.
“The government should also have its own green ratings assessment and accordingly offer rebate after completion of projects,” Britto told IANS on the sidelines of a ‘Green Buildings’ conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Friday.
“This can be in the form of reduction of infrastructure tax or reduction of VAT for green products such as solar panels and rain water harvesting appliances,” Britto said.
Emphasising on the urgent need for real estate developers and state governments to change their mindsets towards ‘green building’, CII executive director in Goa S. Raghupathy said the IGBC would submit a memorandum to the state government for evolving a green rating assessment soon.
“We will submit a memorandum to the state government in a few days which will consist of all the key recommendations and suggestions made by the speakers,” Raghupathy said.
The IGBC was formed by the CII in 2001 with a vision to usher in a green building movement in India and facilitate India to become one of the global leaders in green buildings by 2015.
