Government will work to prevent terror attacks: Minister

Lucknow, July 14 (IANS) The government will come up with “arrangements” to counter the recurrence of terror attacks, union minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said Thursday, a day after serial bomb blasts in Mumbai left 17 dead.
“We are carrying out a thorough inquiry into the serial bomb blasts that rocked Mumbai Wednesday. On the basis of it, arrangements will be in place to avert the recurrence of such terror incidents,” Coal Minister Jaiswal told reporters.
He did not elaborate what he meant by “certain arrangements”.
Unwilling to call it an intelligence faliure, Jaiswal said, “It’s easy to make allegations. If we find any security-related loopholes during inquiry, they would surely be plugged and (it will be) ensured they do not arise in future.”
“It’s an achievement for our UPA government that such a terror activity could not take place for a long time in any part of the country,” responded Jaiswal when asked about opposition allegations that the central government was not serious about fighting terror.
Jaiswal also said Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s recent visits to Uttar Pradesh had considerably strengthened the party and would revive the Congress in the state after a gap of over 20 years.
