Islamabad, Dec 25 (IANS) Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, in the midst of the memogate scam, said Sunday his government would complete its full five-year term to 2013.

Addressing the 100th meeting of the federal cabinet here on the 135th birth anniversary of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the prime minister said the parliament would complete its five-year term and this will strengthen the democratic institutions, APP reported.

It’s an honour for the present government that it has completed its 45 months and it will complete the five-year term mandated to it by the people of Pakistan, Gilani said.

Pakistan’s elected government has been following the principles of Jinnah and is taking all decisions through consultation with the elected representatives, he said.

He also said the government held full respect for all the national institutions like judiciary, military and parliament including media and emphasised the need that all these institutions should work within their constitutional framework.

The country witnessed heightened tension between the government and the army after Gilani Thursday said: “Nobody can say that he is not under the government.” He added that conspiracies were being hatched to “pack up an elected government”.

Pakistani Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has dispelled speculation of a military takeover and assured the nation that the military would support the democratic process in the country.
