Government urged to appoint more public prosecutors
December 9th, 2009 - 9:31 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday urged the city government to appoint more public prosecutors so as to speed up disposal of piled up cases.
Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar were shocked when they learnt that there was only one public prosecutor in every court in the capital to deal with narcotics cases.
“It is impossible for a public prosecutor to do all cases in different courts. The figures are alarming.”
On an average a judge hears 189 cases daily. Among them 113 deal with the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
