New Delhi, Dec 16 (IANS) The Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry has asked for a daily update on the online Common Admission Test (CAT) for Indian Institutes of Management that was marred by technical glitches.
“The ministry has asked the CAT centre, IIM-Ahmedabad (Indian Institute of Management) to keep it informed by furnishing daily updates,” Minister of State for HRD D. Purandeswari told the Lok Sabha Wednesday.

The statement came as the IIMs apologized for not being able to hold a smooth CAT this year. For the first time, CAT went online but thousands of students had a tough time as technical glitches marred the exam.

The computer based CAT involved 361 servers across the country for the 11 days. Of the total 3,971 server-days, Purandeswari said that “192 server days were down during the testing period”.

Around 242,000 candidates had registered for CAT-2009 but only 216,000 candidates could manage to take the online test.
