Governance, not just winning elections, matters: Advani to partymen

Bangalore, April 28 (IANS) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani Thursday urged partymen to ensure their conduct did not invite charges as “even minor wrongdoings of BJP are highlighted”.
He said this while addressing party workers after inaugurating the BJP’s new office complex in Malleshwaram in north Bangalore.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa of the BJP is facing corruption and illegal land deal charges. Five private complaints have been filed against Yeddyurappa, his two sons and son-in-law.
Without referring to these developments, Advani urged partymen to ensure they did not invite censure.
“We are a different party, unlike others who can indulge in scams and still get away with it,” he said.
“What the party does after winning elections matters more than merely winning the polls,” Advani said.
In his address, Yeddyurappa attacked the opposition Congress for illegal mining and said “I am being made a scapegoat.”
He said he would soon release in New Delhi a list of all people behind illegal mining in the state.
Besides corruption and illegal land deal charges, Yeddyurappa is also under attack for not taking steps to check illegal mining in the state, which a Supreme Court-appointed panel has said, was on “a colossal scale”.
