Goods train derails, traffic on Howrah-Chennai route disrupted
February 18th, 2009 - 3:57 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Feb 18 (IANS) Several trains on the busy Howrah-Chennai route were cancelled or diverted Wednesday after at least 25 wagons of a goods train that started from Paradip port in Orissa derailed near the border with West Bengal.
The goods train, carrying coal from Paradip to Raigarh in Chhattisgarh, derailed near the Narayangarh station in West Bengal, 40 km from the border.
According to the East Coast Railway, the trains cancelled include the Howrah-Bhubaneswar-Howrah Dhauli Express and the Bhubaneswar-Howrah-Bhubaneswar Jan Shatabdi Express.
The Howrah-Chennai Coromandal Express scheduled to leave Howrah Wednesday has also been cancelled.
The Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express scheduled to leave Bhubaneswar is amongst the several trains diverted.
