Goods train derails in Uttar Pradesh
October 31st, 2009 - 3:53 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 31 (IANS) A goods train Saturday derailed near the Mau railway station in Uttar Pradesh, disrupting rail traffic on the busy Varanasi-Gorakhpur route. No one was injured, an official said.
The incident took place Saturday afternoon near the Mau railway station, about 250 km from Lucknow, where seven coaches of the train derailed. The train was coming from Varanasi railway station.
“Even as the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigations reveal the derailment took place due to some problems in the brakes of the train. The derailment subsequently damaged the tracks,” Mau’s Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector Vinod Kumar told IANS.
“An inquiry into the incident by a team of high-level officials has been initiated,” he added.
According to officials, it will take a few hours to restore the rail traffic on the route.
