Gold jewellery robbed from retired major’s house

New Delhi, Aug 21(IANS) Robbers entered the home of a retired army officer in northwest Delhi Thursday and fled after snatching gold jewellery from its inmates, the police said.The incident occurred Thursday afternoon around 2.35 p.m. in the Ashok Vihar residence of Shan Singh Yadav, 72, a a retired Indian Army major.

“Two persons knocked on the door and when the maid Sangeeta enquired who they were, they introduced themselves as water tank cleaners. As the maid turned around, four people barged into the house,” a police officer said.

“They were armed with knives. They tried to enter a room where Yadav’s daughter-in-law Sunita was but she somehow managed to shut the door,” the officer added.

“They then went to (Yadav’s wife) Shaknutla’s room and asked her to hand over her gold ornaments. However, she clutched the knife that was being waved at her and suffered injuries on her hand. They snatched her gold jewellery,” the officer said.

In the meantime, Yadav entered Shakuntala’s room and raised an alarm, at which the robbers fled from the spot, the officer added.

“We are trying to trace the robbers and are also ascertaining the value of jewellery,” he said.
