Goa steps up security after Delhi blast
September 8th, 2011 - 7:21 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Sep 8 (IANS) Goa has beefed up security at vital areas, especially religious places, after the terror attack outside the Delhi High Court that has claimed 12 lives, state Home Minister Ravi Naik said Thursday.
“We have increased security at all vital installations, especially religious places like temples, churches and mosques after yesterday’s incident,” Naik told reporters on the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony of Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan also as Goa governor.
Sankaranarayanan has been given the additional charge of Goa as the tenure of his Goa counterpart S.S. Sidhu expired.
Goa has asked for more funds from the union home ministry to install high technology vigilance equipment at sensitive places in the state, Naik added.
Clarifying that there was no specific terror alert in Goa, Naik said that the state security apparatus was in a “general state of alertness” after Wednesday’s blast at a crowded gate of the high court complex in New Delhi.
