Goa policeman suspended for gambling on duty
November 17th, 2010 - 8:33 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Nov 17 (IANS) A police constable was suspended Wednesday after he gambled in a casino while on duty, misbehaved with the casino staff and even went to the extend of hitting a senior police officer, police said.
“Police constable Vikram Naik has been suspended today (Wednesday) and a departmental enquiry has been started against him,” Superintendent of Police Arvind Gawas said.
Sources said the management of a shore-based casino in Panaji contacted the police for assistance after the constable started misbehaving with the casino staff Monday night.
“He even hit a police sub-inspector whose fingers were fractured as a result of the assault,” a police official said.
Medical examination revealed the errant constable was drunk at the time of the incident.
