Panaji, Dec 30 (IANS) Former Goa tourism minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator Francisco Pacheco Friday resigned from his seat and the party, claiming that the Congress-NCP led coalition government was not doing enough to crack down on illegal mining, corruption and the drug mafia-politician nexus.
Pacheco submitted his resignations to Speaker Pratapsing Rane and the officials at the NCP state headquarters here.
“The Congress led coalition government in which NCP is a partner is not doing enough to bring down corruption, investigate the police drug mafia nexus and several ministers are involved in illegal mining,” he said.
Pacheco’s resignation comes a week after the Election Commission of India (ECI) set March 3, 2012, as the date for assembly polls in Goa.
He is the third legislator to resign from the 40 member House, after two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators quit their posts two months back.
