Panaji, Sep 15 (IANS) Architects and government planners will meet here later this month to discuss ways of making Goa’s growing number of hotels environment friendly, an official said Thursday.

“Eminent speakers from across India and Goa would address an audience of developers, architects, engineers, consultants, hoteliers, various government departments including heads of departments, students of engineering and architecture, and other stake holders,” said Amar Britto, chairman of Indian Green Building Council’s Goa chapter that is organising the conference in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industries.

“Various issues like green architectural design including passive design, restoration of historic buildings, how existing hotels could become greener, government of Goa’s initiative on green buildings and waste management in Goa would be discussed during the conference,” Britto told reporters.

The concept of green buildings, which are able to save up to 50 percent energy, has been increasingly picking up in Goa, he said.

The conference would be inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Sep 24.

Goa has more than 400 hotels, including 11 five-star deluxe hotels, three-five star hotels and nearly 20 three-star hotels. Totally, they account for the 30,000 odd rooms on offer in Goa.
